Thirty-five Years of Holiday Lights Provide Hope on Candy Cane Lane
The 35th year of making a difference in the life of a child with cancer opens Friday, November 27th! Take a trip down Candy Cane Lane and share the true spirit of the season. The West Allis neighborhood bounded by Oklahoma and Montana Avenues and 92nd to 96th Street is transformed into a winter wonderland to benefit the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc.) Please remember to drive with your lights on!
The holiday lights will be aglow from Nov. 27 – Dec. 27, 6-9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 6-10 p.m. on Fridays, 5-10 p.m. Saturdays and 5-9 p.m. on Sundays. The event is free, but visitors may leave a donation if they wish. These donations translate into a perpetual gift of hope and life for children with cancer. The official collection site is at the corner of 95th & Manitoba.
Since its inception, Candy Cane Lane has raised $2,997,486. On November 27th, Craig Witz, VP of Retail Banking at North Shore Bank, will be on-site to make a donation of $2514 to bring the grand total to $3 million dollars! It will an exciting way to kick-off this year’s program and celebrate the Annual North Shore Bank Night.
Since 1985, the Candy Cane Lane program has raised over $2.9 million for the MACC Fund. The proceeds from Candy Cane Lane will help the MACC Fund continue to support research into the effective treatment and cure of childhood cancer and blood related diseases. The work being done in the MACC Fund Research Center of the Medical College of Wisconsin, UW Carbone Cancer Center in the MACC Fund Pediatric Cancer Research Wing, MACC Fund Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Wisconsin and Marshfield Clinic is on the cutting edge and is making a difference in the fight against childhood cancer and related blood disorders. Overall cure rates have risen from 20% to over 80% during the almost 44-year history of the MACC Fund. MACC Fund’s support of over $70 million has played a major role in that success.
