Take Action

Immediate Action:

Raise Awareness:

  • Share your personal story or connection with pediatric cancer with others in your network.
  • Read and share the stories of children in our community who are battling childhood cancer.
  • Contact various media outlets to suggest they run a story in early September about childhood cancer.
  • Secure a local proclamation for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in your city
  • Reach out to the celebrities/public figures that are associated with your organization and ask them to post about Childhood Cancer Awareness Month on their social media outlets to help raise awareness.

Host an Event or Fundraiser:

  • Collect hospital gift cards or food delivery service gift cards for families in the pediatric oncology units at Children’s Wisconsin and American Family Children’s Hospital.
  • Host a gold event at your church, local school, community center, gym, or in your neighborhood to educate and unite the community: gold decorations, gold clothes, gold face paint, gold prizes, etc.
  • Gather a group of friends to serve a meal to families traveling for care at Ronald McDonald House (Eastern Wisconsin or Madison)
  • Organize a gold-themed sporting event (football or soccer game, cross country event, etc.)- athletes wear something gold, cheerleaders use gold poms, half time event, concession sales or proceeds of a bucket pass can go to research!
  • Involve your elementary school by hosting a card drive: children design their own cards to be delivered to children in the hospital.
  • Host a bake sale or lemonade stand to raise funds. Hand out childhood cancer awareness facts too!
  • Host a toy drive for the children or a gift card drive for the teens in the oncology units at Children’s Wisconsin and American Family Children’s Hospital
  • College groups: Organize a dance marathon, gaming tournament, etc. to benefit research.
  • Business owners: This month, give customers the option to round up or designate sales of a particular item to benefit research.
  • Hold a workplace competition between departments to raise funds for pediatric cancer research.
